Drift diving allows a diver to travel over a large area without expending much energy. You simply get neutrally buoyant and enjoy the dive as the scenery moves past you. The SDI Drift Diver Course covers the “how-to’s” of drift diving from, how to enter and exit drifts, what to do if you get caught in a drift and wish to get out, how to get out of the drift to observe something special, and much more. The course will also introduce you to the various types of drift currents you may be diving in.

This specialty is designed to acquaint the diver with the special skills and techniques necessary to successfully plan, execute and evaluate a search and recovery dive.

SDI RESCUE DIVER COURSE

After the Open Water Diver course, if you want to increase your confidence, the Rescue Diver course is your next step. This course expands your knowledge and skills for emergency situations. Please note that a First Response certification is required as a prerequisite.

What can I do after receiving my Drift Diver certificate?

Upon successful completion of this course, graduates may:

  1. Conduct open water dives in conditions similar to their training to a maximum depth of 40 meters
  2. Conduct dives with other certified divers at the same or higher level of certification.
  3. Conduct dives that do not require decompression.
  4. Enroll in the  individual SDI Specialties, or the SDI Advanced Diver Development program.
How long does the course take?

The duration of the course varies, but it typically takes 1 day to complete, including theory sessions, pool training, and open water dives.

Do I need prior diving experience?

Yes, prior diving experience is required. This course is designed for Open Water or Advanced Open Water Divers and want to expand their skills in drift diving.

What equipment do I need?

No, you don’t need to have your own scuba gear. We provide all necessary equipment as part of the course fee. However, we recommend purchasing your own mask, snorkel, and fins for a better fit and added comfort. If you’re interested in buying your own scuba gear, we offer special discounts for students on high-quality equipment.

Is the SDI Open Water certification accepted worldwide?

Yes, all SDI certifications are recognized worldwide. Once certified, you can dive in various locations, but your maximum depth limit will depend on your training level. Open Water Divers can typically dive up to 18 meters (60 feet).
